NJCM is short for Nederlands Juristen Comité voor de Mensenrechten (Netherlands Committee of Jurists for Human Rights). The NJCM is the Dutch section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ). As the national section of the ICJ the NJCM, which was founded in 1974, seeks to promote and improve human rights protection. The NJCM critically monitors legislation and policy in the Netherlands, including foreign policy, and frequently releases commentaries on policy documents and draft legislation. Every year, the NJCM organizes at least one conference devoted to a theme in the area of the protection of human rights.
The NJCM has about 1300 members, mostly jurists but also students and others (including legal entities) who are interested in human rights. Members who are willing to devote time and expertise in the field of human rights are welcome to join one of the working groups. The working groups operate in the areas of constitutional and public law, criminal law, family law, social security law, immigration law, health law and the international protection of human rights.
